Mandy visits Freyberg High School Library

We were so lucky to have Mandy Hager with us for an afternoon. Mandy is on a tight schedule this year having won the prestigious 'Katherine Mansfield Menton Fellowship". This Fellowship allows a NZ writer to work at teh Villa Isola Bella in Menton, France for a period of six months or more.
We had a fabulous afternoon meeting Mandy over an informal lunch in the library. Mandy shared techniques on writing, her inspiration for her first children's book "Tom's Story" and talked to us about her latest novels including 'Dear Vincent'. During Period 5, Mandy hosted a bookchat and creative writing discussion with Mrs Barrington's year 11 English class.
All in all, it was a great afternoon and those of us who met Mandy were inspired by her passion for writing 'gutsy, action packed Young Adult Novels. Oh that some of her talent might rub off on us.
We wish Mandy lots of luck for winning the top award in this years NZ Post Children's Book Awards.
